    We had a breakaway victory today after all, Nans Peters was strong enough and determined to ride clear of everybody else and claim the biggest win of his career. Among the favourites, Tadej Pogacar was the most determined to attack after having lost time yesterday, and the Slovenian eventually managed to claw back 40 seconds. Adam Yates lost contact with the main group on the final climb but then managed to recover and keep the yellow jersey.     As expected, today's tough climbs have made numerous victims. One of them didn't even dare to start the stage, last year's winner Egan Bernal retired during the morning after having collected heavy delays in the previous days.
