GUTTED Gavin Lapsley told last night how he missed out on a £34MILLION EuroMillions jackpot — after he forgot his weekly numbers.
The garage worker was left distraught when his regular picks came up trumps for the massive windfall — in the first game he hasn’t played in SIX YEARS.
Now he admits he is close to breaking down every time he sees the winning line.
Gavin, 24, groaned: “I keep thinking about all the things I could’ve done with the money — I feel like bursting into tears.”
Gavin’s nightmare began last Tuesday when he arrived for work at the Asda petrol station in Alloa and went for his Lotto ticket before starting his shift.
As he queued in the supermarket, he realised he’d left his Fast Play Card — which includes his chosen numbers — in his staffroom locker.
Gavin, of Tillicoultry, Clacks, said: “I had a five-minute walk from the supermarket to the garage. I thought about running back upstairs to get my numbers from my wallet but decided against it. I’d have had to queue again and would’ve been late for work. The funny thing is that if I had won, I would have quit my job.”
Gavin tried for 15 minutes to recall his numbers but gave up and headed to work ticketless.
When he checked the result at home that night he was horrified to see his favourites 5, 11, 16, 25, 28 and lucky stars 7 and 9 — meaning he missed out on £34,628,142.
Gavin — who lives with mum Carole, 53, and stepdad Will Scotland, 52 — said: “It was heartbreaking. I kept checking over and over again.
“I couldn’t stop looking at the numbers. I tossed and turned all night and was really angry.”
Instead of starting a life of luxury, Gavin was back working at Asda the next day.
He said: “I told my workmates, ‘You could’ve been looking at a millionaire’ and explained what happened.
“My manager joked she would’ve married me if I’d won but everyone was sympathetic.”
He added: “I’d have bought an Aston Martin as I’m a big James Bond fan. I would’ve taken my mum on a cruise and looked after all my family.
“My hobby is trainspotting so I’d have invested in a train company. I love US theme parks too — I’d love to own one.”
Gavin’s unclaimed prize rolled over to £52million and was won by a Swiss player.
Gavin added: “I’ll keep playing but I’m changing my numbers. There’s no chance they’ll ever come up again.”
Awwwww, what a shame on this guy, feel really sorry for him, wouldnt this just suck if it happened to you??????
